This topic describes how to create a test question with Explanations, which allows students to view an explanation for the question on their scoresheet after they have completed the test.
Note: Students can view an explanation for a question if the explanation option is enabled within the test's settings. For more information regarding editing test settings, please see Edit: Test Settings.
- Select Tests & Quizzes from the left sidebar.
- Select the My Test Library tab to see your tests.
- Select the name of a test to open it, or create a new test by selecting New Test.
Note: If you need a step by step guide on how to create a new test, please see Create: Tests.
- If you have opened an existing assessment, select Edit Test Settings to open the assessment edit page. If you are creating a new assessment, the Edit Test Settings page will be the first page you will see after selecting New Test.
- Select one of the options in the Explanations drop down menu.
- Students may not view: Students will not be able to view any explanation associated with any question on the student scoresheet.
- Students may view: Students will be able to view any explanation associated with any question on the student scoresheet.
- Students may view after scoring 100%: Students will be able to view any explanation associated with any question on the student scoresheet, only if they score 100% on a test.
- After all assessment settings have been finalized, save your changes by selecting Submit at the bottom of the page.
- Next, you will create explanations that are custom to specific questions. To create a question, hover over the Add New button, and select Question from the drop-down menu.
- Select any question type from the Question type drop-down menu.
Note: The Instructions Only question type cannot have an explanation.
- Complete the question information. Then scroll to the Explanation section.
- Add a question explanation as Text or Upload File:
- Text: Add a question explanation in plain text. If you select the show tools option found under Explanation, you will be presented with a text editor that will allow you to add a question explanation in rich text.
- Upload File: You can upload a file that students will be able to access when they are viewing their scoresheet.
- Text: Add a question explanation in plain text. If you select the show tools option found under Explanation, you will be presented with a text editor that will allow you to add a question explanation in rich text.
- Once the question explanation is set, select Save Question or Save & Edit Next if you are planning to create more questions for your assessment.
- To preview the question explanation as it will appear for students, select Preview.
Note: Once you have accessed the preview of the test, navigate to the Submission page and mock submit the test in order to see the student scoresheet view.
- Test preview Submission page:
- On the student scoresheet, navigate to the question that contains the explanation. Select View Explanation in the Your Score box.
- Plain or rich text explanation:
- Upload file explanation:
- Close the explanation box by selecting the white colored "x" in the right corner.
