Test-Taking UI: Use Tools

This topic covers how to use test-taking tools during a test.

  1. Once you have selected a test to take, select the green Start Test button to begin your test.



  2. You can select the tool you wish to use from the righthand toolbar.

    Some tools may not be available on your toolbar, depending on the settings your teacher or school has selected for the test.

  3. You can hover over each tool to see the name of that tool.

  4. To use the highlighter, select the highlighter icon from the right tool bar. A menu with available color options will expand. Select the color wish to use. You can click and drag your cursor across the text in a question or passage to highlight the text in the selected color.


     
  5. To use the notepad, select the notepad icon from the toolbar. You can type any notes into the allotted space. They will save as you type them, and you can access them as you navigate through the test.



  6. To use the calculator, select the calculator icon from the tool bar. Depending on the type of calculator that has been selected in the test settings, you can perform basic or advanced math using the calculator. 



  7. To use the reference sheet, select the reference sheet icon from the toolbar. The file will then display on your screen.



  8. To use the protractor, select the protractor icon from the toolbar. You can then drag and drop the protractor tool to the desired place on your screen. Additionally, you can also access and control the protractor through the following keyboard commands:

    ALT + UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT = Move

    ALT + SHIFT + UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT = Move fast

    ALT + CTRL + UP/DOWN = Scale

    ALT + CTRL + SHIFT + UP/DOWN = Scale fast

    ALT + CTRL + LEFT/RIGHT = Rotate

    ALT + CTRL + SHIFT + LEFT/RIGHT = Rotate fast

    ESCAPE = Close



  9. To use the magnifier, select the magnifier icon from the tool bar. You can then click and drag the magnifier tool to the desired place on your screen.  Additionally, you can also access and control the magnifier through the following keyboard commands:

    ESCAPE = Close

    Space bar when in focus = Close


    Please note: The Magnification Tool will not display for iPad and iPad mini users. Instead, use the pinch and zoom action to adjust the overall display size.

  10. To use the line reader, select the line reader icon from the tool bar. You can align the slot with the lines of a passage to assist you with reading the text.  Additionally, you can also access and control the line reader through the following keyboard commands:

    ALT + DIRECTION = Move line reader in that direction

    ALT + SHIFT + DIRECTION = Move line reader faster in that direction

    ALT + CTRL + DIRECTION = Resize line reader in that direction (but not smaller than its starting size).

    ALT + CTRL + SHIFT + DIRECTION = Resize line reader faster in that direction (but not smaller than its starting size)



  11. While reading a passage, there may be a glossary of defined terms.  Within the passage text, defined terms will appear bolded and with a line beneath them. Hover your mouse over the terms to view their definitions.
