Edit: Advanced Scoring

This topic covers how to set up advanced scoring for a test question.

Advanced Scoring is a feature exclusive to the Engrade Assess module, which is currently available for purchase at the district level. If you are interested in using Advanced Scoring, contact your district administrator to inquire if this feature may be available for your school.

  1. Select Tests & Quizzes from your left sidebar.
     
  2. Select the My Test Library tab.

  3. Select a test from your test library.



  4. To create a new question, hover over the Add New button, and select Question from the drop-down menu.



  5. To edit an existing question, hover over the gear icon to the right of the question you wish to edit, and select Edit from the drop-down menu.



  6. Select Advanced Scoring from the drop-down menu next to Scoring type.

    Advanced scoring is available for the following question types: Multiple Choice, Multi Select, Matching, Cloze, Bucketing and Ordering. You will not have this option for any other question types.



  7. For Multiple Choice, Multi Select questions, you can set the following conditions:
    • If all choices are correct: Enter the amount of points the student will earn if they selected all correct responses.
    • Else if __ are selected and __ are correct: In the first blank, select the number of answer choices the student selected, and in the second blank, select the number of choices that were correct. Next, under Points Awarded, enter the number of points the student will earn if they meet this condition.
    • Otherwise: Students will earn 0 points if they do not meet any of the above conditions.
    • Select + add rule to continue adding additional scoring conditions.



  8. For Matching questions, you can set the following conditions:
    • If all responses are correct: Enter the amount of points students will earn if they correctly match all items.
    • Else if __ response(s) match the correct item: In the blank, select the number of items that the student correctly matched. Next, under Points Awarded, enter the number of points the student will earn if they meet this condition.
    • Otherwise: Students will earn 0 points if they do not meet any of the above conditions.
    • Select + add rule to continue adding additional scoring conditions.



  9. For Cloze questions, you can set the following conditions:
    • If all responses are valid and matching the correct item: Enter the amount of points the student will earn if they selected all correct responses.
    • Else if option 1 is __ and option 2 is __: In the first blank, select the response the student has chosen for option 1. In the second blank, select the response the student has chosen for option 2. Next, under Points Awarded, enter the number of points the student will earn if they meet this condition
    • Otherwise: Students will earn 0 points if they do not meet any of the above conditions.
    • Select + add rule to continue adding additional scoring conditions.



  10. For Bucketing questions, you can set the following conditions:
    • If all buckets are correct: Enter the amount of points the student will earn if all buckets are correct.
    • Else if bucket 1 is __ and bucket 2 is __: In the first blank, select if the student's response is correct or incorrect. Repeat for all additional blanks. Next, under Points Awarded, enter the number of points the student will earn if they meet this condition.
    • Otherwise: Students will earn 0 points if they do not meet any of the above conditions.
    • Select + add rule to continue adding additional scoring conditions.



  11. For Ordering questions, you can set the following conditions:
    • If all responses are valid and in the correct order: Enter the number of points the student will earn if all items are ordered correctly.
    • Else if __ valid responses (non-distractors) are chosen in any order: Select the number of valid responses (not distractors) the student selected. Next, under Points Awarded, enter the number  of points the student will earn if they meet this condition.
    • Otherwise: Students will earn 0 points if they do not meet any of the above conditions.
    • Select + add rule to continue adding additional scoring conditions.



  12. Select the the green Save Question button when finished to save your scoring settings.
