Create: Test Sections

This topic covers how to create sections, which allow test authors to control the use of tools such as the calculator, highlighter and notepad, and add custom introductions for each section.

  1. Select Tests & Quizzes from the left sidebar.

  2. Select the My Test Library tab.

  3. Select the name of a test to which you would like to add sections.

  4. To create a section, hover over the Add New button, and select Section from the drop-down menu.

  5. Complete the section information:
    • Introduction: Enter an introduction and/or student instructions here.
    • Time Limit: Select a time limit from the drop-down menu, or choose None if you do not wish to have a time limit.
    • Tools: Check the boxes to the left of any tools you would like students to be able to use while in this section of the test.

  6. If you selected the Calculator tool option, you will be prompted to choose a Simple, Scientific, or Graphing calculator type.

  7. During the test, students will be able to hover over each tool to see the name of that tool.


  8. Select the green Submit button to create the section. The section will now appear under a horizontal bar on the Edit Test screen.

  9. You can easily rearrange test sections by hovering over the gear icon in the section header and selecting from the options in the drop down menu. Alternatively, you can drag/drop individual questions to fall beneath the desired section.
